Staying in the moment on the golf course

We all have a lot of time to think during a round of golf.

Each shot only takes seconds but we have hours to let our minds wander.

So what do you do between shots?

  • Stress out about that 3 putt you just had on the last putting green

  • Become results focussed and try to figure out how to make up these shots that you mucked up?

  • Or just chat to your buddies?

The best tip I can give you is to remove your obsession with score, it will make you more anxious and stressed. Remember you’re not playing golf for a living, hopefully you play golf for fun!

Our biggest challenge on the golf course is trying to stay in the present. Remember the most important shot in golf is the one you’re about to hit

Here are a few tips to calm yourself down when you get nervous or anxious.

  • Use a repeatable pre-shot routine that you use every single time you hit a shot. (Why not join me for an on course training session and I can help you with this. Click here for more info

  • Focus on your breath, take some slow, deep breaths before you hit your shot

  • Why not try and hum some of your favourite tunes between shots? It might get catchy and your golfing buddies might start humming with you!

  • Look at nature all around you – listen to the birds, watch the wind blowing the leaves, enjoy your surroundings and being in fresh air

  • Simply enjoy the company of others. Learn something new about them?

Remember the most important thing is to have fun while you’re playing golf.
